The big advantage of this battery design is its easy installation and removal from the collar. The battery is Lithium so is naturally long lasing. I install the battery when I put the dog outside with his collar on, and remove it when he comes in and I remove the collar and battery. As a result, I am on my fourth year with the same battery and it still measures 6.02 volts and operates the collar quite well.
My original collar uses a standard 2032 lithium battery which also has a long service life, but must be installed and removed by removing and replacing two small screws and by being careful to maintain the collar's waterproof features. It was too much trouble to install and remove the battery every time I put the collar on or took if off. As a result, I was lucky to get more than five months life per battery!
 Needlessly expensive designSep 27, 2009
Amazon had the best prices I found , particularly with free shipping when buying enough to get over the $25 threshold . Don't know how they made money because each package of 2 batteries was shipped separately .
But Petsafe seems to believe in milking the customers for unnecessarily expensive proprietary modules embedding the batteries in the waterproof cap and O ring .
I understand newer models from competitors are now available with rechargeable batteries and in fact greater range . I'd shop for them before getting collared ;) by the Petsafe system again .

PET SAFE WIRELESS FENCE IS THE VERY BEST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER PURCHASED TO KEEP MY LOVED DOG SAFE. i FOUND THAT THE DOG TAUGHT HIMSELF (DUE TO MY NEGLEGANCE IN READING THE DIRECTIONS FIRST.) I INSTALLED THE FENCE, PLACED THE COLLAR ON THE DOG AND LET HIM LOOSE.NEEDLESS TO SAY
THE DOG WAS BLASTED. HE HAS NOT BEEN OUTSIDE THE PERIMETER SINCE. I WOULD ADVISE OTHERS TO READ DIRECTIONS FIRST. HOWEVER, I FEEL THE DOG TRAINED HIMSELF, AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE PRODUCT AND HAVE NO WORRIES OF THE DOG WANDERING ON THE STREET AND GOING PLACES HE SHOULDN'T BE.
I RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR ALL DOG LOVERS.

I have no idea of the quality of this product, but I am greatly disappointed that it was "recommended" by Amazon. I purchased bark collars that had nothing to do with this product. Disappointing, and this product is on its way back to you.

Good price and an even better deal with Prime "free shipping". I am not a fan of proprietary batteries but i'll deal with them to keep the best bark collar working, just wish they would last a little longer.
